Must lamellas be replaced periodically?

posted in Technical Articles by

If a lamellar settler is properly designed, with a good system of sludge removal and proper maintenance, the passage of time shouldn’t  affect the lamellar modules.Lamellar modules with more than 20 years

It is true that sometimes when cleaning the lamellar modules with a “Karcher” there are corners of the profiles that are broken by water pressure, this type of damage doesn´t affect in any way the performance of lamellar, it’s a simple matter of aesthetics.

I have personally seen lamellar settlers running for over 20 years with minimal damage that absolutely doesn’t justify their replacement.

There are lamellar models where the wall thickness is less than 1 mm, the fact of filling and emptying the settlers, sludge accumulating inside the lamellar and blasting, damaging the walls of the lamellar packs, eventually ending deforming and moving from the support structure, especially when there´s no anti-floating system installed, or it´s not suitable. In these cases we sometimes had to replace the lamellar although practically most of lamellar brands have adequate thickness.
